Daan De Wit

Brief info

Daan De Wit is a Belgian designer who started his own studio in 2019 after receiving his postgraduate degree in furniture design from Thomas More University of Applied Arts. His approach has been informed by his work with Junya Ishigami + Associates in Tokyo as well as number of furniture design apprenticeships in Belgium.

Inspired by natural phenomena, systems, and ideologies, de Wit approaches materials for their intrinsic physical properties, working through experimental prototypes that lead to the production of small collections of bespoke objects.  In his search for the essential character of a material and its expression, his objects result in a purity of form that retains the integrity of his chosen material. Techniques are not hidden away, but are showcased as structural and aesthetic expression. Stones, canyons, topography, landscape, biomimicry of beetle shells and their natural lustrous colors are all sources of his inspiration.

De Wit has exhibited in many solo and group exhibitions throughout Europe, and received several award, including the Contemporary Design Market Prize by UPR.
