Diego Cibelli

Brief info

The Neopolitan artist Diego Cibelli has emerged as a contemporary master of ceramics—particularly porcelain, the most delicate and prized of sculptural mediums. He has achieved such extraordinary technical skill in part due to his close relationship with the legendary Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Capodimonte. His conceptual approach owes much to his training as both an artist and designer at the Academy of Fine Arts and University Luigi Vanvitelli in Naples, and the Weisensee Kunsthochschule in Berlin.

Cibelli’s work has evolved in the tradition of 1960s and 1970s Radical Design, sharing with spiritual forefathers Archizoom, Superstudio, Andrea Branzi and Ettore Sottsass, a belief in objects as powerful agents in our lived-in and natural environments. His research-based approach leads to the production of singular collections each exploring a specific theme. The results are worthy of the most extraordinary cabinets of curiosities and wunderkammer collections. He works at all scales, from table-top objects to entire interiors, including the commission of the restaurant and bar at the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte.
